A MODERN new fire vehicle has been unveiled at Keynsham Fire Station.

The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS) is based at the station and provides round-the-clock support to people affected by fires and floods across the Avon Fire & Rescue Service area.

The FESS had been using an 11-year-old loan vehicle, in place of its original 15-year-old modified motor home, which was no longer economical to keep on the road.

But on Saturday the FESS unveiled a modern, new, customised Fiat Ducato at a launch event.

The event gave the community a chance to meet the volunteers, look at the new vehicle and find out all about the FESS service and what it does.

The new vehicle has seating, refreshments and toilet/shower facilities as well as storage space for specialist equipment.

It has more seating than its predecessor, is faster, more manoeuvrable and presents a more modern and professional image.

It will ensure that FESS volunteers will be able to continue to provide practical and emotional support to people in their hour or need.
