W HAT a cowardly and despicable act it was to kill that majestic Exmoor stag.

Apparently this was carried out by some "Trophy Hunter". What sort of person can see the head of a defenceless animal to be a trophy!

There was nothing to gain by this – he was not dangerous, he was not culled, nor was he killed for food. He was shot just because he was there, the farmer who sold this hunter the shooting rights should have known better. He knew just what a local treasure the Emperor was. Also he knew it is the middle of the rutting season, and what a surprise the police are not going to investigate it.

But as I have said over many years stags etc are only animals, so why should people care?

“Cowardly and despicable certainly, and those who carried out the execution should have no part in our society. Killing of so-called innocents is always difficult. The hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed by UN sanctions or Blairs war are also to be deeply regretted. The breeding and killing of animals and birds to provide excess food for our obese citizens is just as repugnant. The hunting of foxes by hounds trained to kill their own species (dogs) by being fed puppy carcases is also inhuman.
And much of this is a cause of pride in being British. Not for me, it isn't.”
