I have not seen one for years
WITH regards to Steve England's article on house sparrows last week: I live not far from Lockleaze (Horfield) with a very nice recreation ground close by. There are plenty of trees and where I live we have a back lane which there are hedges, trees etc, but sparrows? None.
I have not seen a sparrow in years. I put seed, fat balls, peanuts out and have to throw all of these away because they start to go mouldy.
When I first came to my home (28 years ago) there were sparrows galore, blue tits, and starlings; our lawn used to be black with these and they would love our bird bath. I have not seen a starling for years.
We have now a couple of blackbirds the occasional robin and magpies, wood pigeons and seagulls.

Where have all these lovely birds gone? Perhaps to Steve England's place at Lockleaze.

“Yes I often wonder myself. By googling the question there is an article in the Telegraph. Whether it explains their falling numbers I'm not sure.
