POLICE are looking for a suspected thief who could be hitch-hiking in the Bristol area.

Devon and Cornwall police are trying to trace David Hughes in connection with two crimes committed between September 22 and 27.

In the first, a man ran up a substantial bill at a bed and breakfast in Yelverton, Devon, left without making any attempt to pay and took the keys with him.

In the second, three charity boxes were stolen from a pub in the Lydford area of the county.

Police believe Mr Hughes is walking, hitch-hiking or using public transport across the South West.

He is his 70s, tall, with untidy, white hair, has a strong Liverpool accent, wears walking boots and carries a brown bag.

He may be trying to pay with, or change large amounts of loose change.

Anyone who sees him should call Devon and Cornwall police on 101, quoting reference JT/12/1223.
