Have a say on south Bristol Ring Road link
Residents and community leaders will meet tomorrow night to discuss the potential effects of a link road through south Bristol.
The social and economic impact of the first part of an extension to the Avon Ring Road will be the main topic on the meeting's agenda.
-
Led by the Hartcliffe and Withywood Community Partnership (HWCP), it will aim to keep residents in areas of south Bristol, including Bishopsworth and Whitchurch, up to date with the latest on the scheme.
The West of England Partnership of all four councils in greater Bristol is consulting on options to improve transport through the southern half of the city.
One option is to create a link route to connect the Hartcliffe Roundabout to the A370 Long Ashton bypass. Eventually there are plans to run the new road all the way to the A4 Hick's Gate roundabout, linking to the end of the existing Avon Ring Road.
Options for the first phase include a new road, a rapid transit bus system similar to the one due to link Long Ashton to the city centre, or a combination of both schemes. A report was to have been released this month but will now be out at the end of March.
Residents have been invited to attend the meeting at the Withywood Centre in Queens Road from 7 to 9pm to hear about the options and discuss their wider impacts.
Mike Sweet from Bristol City Council's transport team will give a brief presentation on the options, after which Paul Chick from the city council's planning department will talk about the urban extension of south Bristol.

“@green bristol blog yes because Hartcliffe is such a wonderful place at the moment so imagine the disaster if it was cut off???? from the centre by building a ring road near it that might actually bring some wealth and jobs to the area how awful that would be!”

“the point green bristol blog, is to create some jobs in the deprived and comparitely poor south side of the city which has suffered for years due to the appaling road network, then prehaps most of the residents wouldn't have to drive to north bristol every day, surely it's not unreasonable for the sixth biggest city in england to have a complete ring road?”

“The point of this road is to eventually link through to the A4 and Avon Ring Road and so draw masses of traffic (heading for the airport and points west) through south Bristol, creating a constant stream of traffic that will cut Hartcliffe and Withywood off from the heart of the city.”

“Waste of time...
The traffice is Northe of the City...
Why build an expensive transit system for Long Ashton when there are only just over 2000 homes.
Surely a more populated area with high traffic problems needs transit systems...
The link road is a waste of money.
It won't be used.
Why will people travel from Stockwood, Hartcliffe and Hengrove to get to Withywood... If they want the airport thay can take the A38 from the A4 or nip up over Dundry... There is no traffic and there are no problems, so WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY build this stupid road..
It's all ruining our beautiful Great Britain...!!!!!!!!!!”

“Why are they wanting to link Long Ashton with the City Centre.
There are only just over 2000 homes in Long Ashton... SURELY, SURELY, SURELY the rapid transit system is needed in a more dense populated area where the traffice is much stronger...!!!!
What is the Council thinking....
Oh, and link road from Hartcliffe to the A370... and then onwards from there.... Whats the point... Most of the traffic is the other side of the city and heading for the motorway. The only traffic on the A38 is local residents and of course, Bristol Airport... But there aren't any traffic problems on the A38.... So WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY”
