Families in south Bristol have until the end of the month to comment on proposals for a link road near where they live.

Five options for connecting the A370 to Hengrove Way have been examined by traffic consultants.

They have given their report to the local councils which are dealing with the scheme under the West of England Partnership (WEP).

Various combinations of new roads, roundabouts and high speed bus links are under consideration for the route.

And with no firm decision on the preferred scheme, people are being invited to have their say until the end of March.

Campaigners have criticised the proposals, saying they would sacrifice valuable green belt land and make little difference to traffic congestion in the city.

“The purpose of the road is the first in a phase of improvements to the road network in the south of Bristol to reduce congestion and provide a viable link around the city. With the airport expansion and the attraction for businesses to move to brown field sites attracting local employment this sort of thing needs to be encouraged.”

“What is the purpose of the proposed new road? Aren't we supposed to be encouraging less travelling and more sustainable ways of accessing what we need? The authorities have hardly shouted from the rooftops about this consultation have they so perhaps they think they know better than locals??”

“Search archives of the 1950s, ideas were muted then and every decade since.
Give it another 50 years to become a serious issue.
We are in Bristol, not any other UK City.”

“I saw something on the BBC website under the same news story - I can't actually see who it's going to help (apart from a minority commuting between the Keynsham area & Long Aston !:-) unless there are longer terms plans to build-up to the M4 which the article didn't cover.”

“have residents been contacted about the various proposals? I haven't seen anything come through the door. Where can I get more details on the proposals and details of how to comment?”
