PEOPLE are being urged to attend a public meeting about the redevelopment of the former Bishopsworth Swimming Pool site.

An open evening will be held at St Peter's Church in Church Road at 7.30pm next Thursday.

The pool was closed on February 28, just before the new Hengrove Park Leisure Centre opened.

Bishopsworth Conservative ward councillors Richard Eddy and Kevin Quartley have called for a planning brief to be established for the redevelopment of the land.

Mr Eddy said: "We thank local people for being passionate about their baths and responding so well to our plea for ideas for the future use of the land.

"Everyone who has responded has stated that they do not wish to see flats on the site and would prefer that the council was more imaginative, meeting neighbourhood needs and providing employment use."

Mr Quartley, pictured left, said: "Our sincere thanks go to the church authorities at St Peter's Church, which is kindly hosting our open evening at the end of April.

"We have arranged for planning officers to be there as well as other representatives of the city council."

“How about a new swimming pool for the locals, which could be run by the locals?”
