It's slow going as Lechlade Trout Lake reopens
The popular Lechlade Trout Lake re-opened with more of a whimper than a bang, following a two-month closure.
Fisheries boss Tim Small said: "Very few anglers have visited since it reopened two weeks ago, so it is difficult to judge how it is fishing. The water clarity is excellent and the temperature is right down. Quality fish are being caught but at the moment it is not easy."
Meanwhile, Lechlade Fisheries' other trout lake – Bushyleaze – has been fishing exceptionally well.
Following the temporary closing of Lechlade, Bushyleaze has been stocked with some larger fish and during August 617 anglers caught 1,676 fish. The top flies were damsel nymphs, buzzers, daddies, diawl bachs and GRHE nymphs.
The best brown trout caught was a superbly-conditioned 4-8-0 specimen, while the top catch fell to a Mr Wilding, who weighed in fish of 2-12-0, 6-10-0, 7-10-0, 9-8-0, 10-12-0 and 12-6-0 on a six-fish ticket.
Saints AC veteran Tom Bailey knocked up his second win in four days with a small-weight victory in the J Philips Cup match, fished on a clear and slow flowing Bristol Avon at St Anne's Park.
He fished a stick float with maggot at two rod lengths, off peg two, and weighed-in 5-2-0 of mostly roach.
Four days earlier he had scored overall victory in the Kingswood Disabled & Over-55s match at Westerleigh Lake.
Bailey fished pellet into the island gap at 15 metres off peg 4 and romped home an easy winner with 62-5-0 of carp.
