Cheltenham Town matchwinner Drissa Diallo has warned his side that victory in the battle with Crewe Alexandra is only the first step on the road to survival.

On-loan defender Diallo scored the decisive strike and his first goal for Cheltenham at Whaddon Road on Saturday to end a seven-game winless league run.

It also reduced the deficit between the Robins and a place outside the bottom four to five points with games to come against fellow strugglers Leyton Orient and Yeovil this month.

But Diallo has warned his team-mates not to get carried away.

He said: "It was great to score and very pleasing that it proved to be the winning goal in such a vital game.

"We have been poor in defeats at Hereford and Milton Keynes, but we have played fairly well in all the other games.

"We have finally got some reward and it is a step in the right direction, but we have to carry on. There are a lot of games against teams around us in the next few weeks so it will be an important time. A lot of things can change over Christmas."

Robins boss Martin Allen hailed Diallo's contribution as 'outstanding' in the 1-0 win.

"Winning the game was very important," Allen added. The players worked very hard and it was probably the best performance since I became manager. It was a good all-round performance and there were loads and loads of positives."

Skipper John Finnigan and Ashley Vincent were both withdrawn with minor ankle knocks, but should both be available for next weekend's trip to Leyton Orient.

Meanwhile, Diallo, 35, is hoping to put the final touches to a deal that will see him make his move permanent in January. He said: "I want to stay and we just need to sort a few things out. "
