It's enough to drive you to drink
Are their no depths to which the politically correct brigade will not sink?
I see that an organisation called Bookstart, a Government-funded charity which promotes reading for children, has rewritten the famous old sea-shanty "What shall we do with a drunken sailor?" and amended it to: "What shall we do with a grumpy pirate?"
And the next line, "put him in the brig until he's sober" has been watered down to read "Do a little jig and make him smile...."
And references to rum, scotch and whisky have been removed and replaced with: "Tickle him until he starts to giggle..."
It makes you weep to think that people are being rewarded with public money to sit around in solemn conclave dreaming up this kind of rubbish.
