Helicopters and butterflies are among the creations on display at a flower show in Saltford.

Flower arrangers have taken inspiration from Bristol's air ambulance for their latest show and will be raising money for the emergency service through the event.

Organiser Eve Hessey, secretary of the Saltford branch of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies, decided on the theme Flowers in the Air to tie in with the work of the Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAA).

She said: "I thought the air ambulance service might excite the imagination. They are so brave.

"The displays are completely unique. No one will ever see anything like it again.

"People have been making a helicopter out of twigs and moss. We have got butterflies, helicopters and things that go up in the air to reflect the fact that the chaps and women go up in the air."

The show in her garden at Saltford Farm Barn is being held tomorrow, which is also National Air Ambulance Day and Sunday.

Members of Saltford, Portishead, Downend, Henleaze, Bristol & District, Bath, Farmborough, Saltford, Chew Valley, and The Designers' Forum flower arranging branches will be showing their displays over the weekend to mark the organisation's 50th anniversary.

Along with the displays, there will be flower arranging demonstrations at 11am and at 3pm on each day, and a raffle, face painting and a treasure hunt.

The show is open from 10am to 6pm. Entry is £3.50 (children free). For tickets contact 01225 873380 or email eve.hessey@blueyonder.co.uk.
