Here's Bristol's World Cup anthem
Move over Skinner and Baddiel, there is a new World Cup theme tune on the horizon – and it is penned by a Bristolian.
The World Cup has inspired Bristol-born-and-bred Paul Hobbs, 60, to write his own song for the Three Lions entitled "England for Glory".
And the 60-year-old from Knowle, who was awarded the Lord Mayor's medal last year for services to local charities, views Bristol's bid to become a host city for the 2018 World Cup as the perfect opportunity for the West Country to unite behind the national team.
Mr Hobbs' record has won approval from the Premier League, been played on TalkSport and was commended by Bristol City chairman Stephen Lansdown.
Mr Lansdown took part in this year's Bath to Bristol charity walk for Meningitis UK organised by Mr Hobbs, which has raised £20,000, and is happy to help him try to realise his dream of having a World Cup hit.
"It's a good, catchy tune you could easily get wrapped up in," said Mr Lansdown.
"Paul is effervescent with enthusiasm and his efforts are very commendable.
"I think the thing that you realise when you are involved with football is how much it captures all spectrums of life. Anybody can talk to anybody about football. Here we are talking about the enthusiasm of somebody and it is all to do with football. And this is why the World Cup is so exciting."
Selection for a BBC Breakfast TV show four years ago previewing the Official England World Cup by Embrace convinced Mr Hobbs to try his hand at capturing the public's imagination.
"It inspired me to make my own," he said. "I thought I could do something pretty good, and I was probably singing in the shower when it came to me.
"You can't help but feel The Wurzels could do this one proud," he added.
The song was given its debut by Original FM on St George's Day after being picked up by presenter Jed Pitman and Mr Hobbs is now hoping it will go national.
"It's been played on a few radio stations," he said. "I just wanted to get it out there. I've got to be honest, it's unlikely I will get that far but it raised the roof at my wedding with more than 100 people singing it. It could be a hit in the West Country."
Top 10 or no, it provides a quirky addition to Bristol's World Cup campaign trail.
The bid team have until November 6 to finalise their presentation to the Football Association who will be making two visits to the city, on July 13 and September 10.
Mr Hobbs, who is £30,000 short of his £100,000 target for the annual Bath to Bristol charity event, all of which is going towards developing a vaccine for meningitis, describes himself as a Bristol sports fan.
He has watched both City and Rovers over the years as well as Bristol Rugby.
"I just want top level sport here so, you know, let's bring the World Cup to Bristol," he said.
"Bristol is classed as a top European city so let's have the World Cup. We've got to go for it."
