Chris should have been taken out of the firing line by Bristol Rovers
We more than matched Leeds in the first period with Jeff Hughes' well-taken goal setting the Mem alight. But I don't know what was said at the break as we failed to get out of the blocks for most of the second half as our visitors stepped up a gear.
I knew we were in for a tough afternoon after hearing one of the greatest football stats ever as a girl stood near me said Rovers have not beaten Leeds United since her gran was pregnant!
The big talking point around me was why Craig Disley was still on the bench as Chris Lines was struggling. He lost possession for the soft first goal and his very clumsy tackle led to the second just about summed up his day.
I know Lenny and Trolls rate Lines very highly. He is one for the future but at the moment he has lost his confidence and Trolls should do as Premiership managers do and take him out of the firing line for a while.
Byron Anthony is an example of a player who lost his place when not playing well but has returned with a couple of very solid performances recently.
Another puzzle was that Lines stayed on at the expense of Hughes. What? I hear you say as I have been known to criticise the former Palace player on occasions. But here he was having scored twice in two games turning in his best home game of the season only to be substituted.
But we did up the pace once Disley and Jo Kuffour came on and it was great to see Jo net the equaliser.
We got nothing out of a referee who ignored obstructions, body checking and shirt pulling in the Leeds box but booked several players for innocuous challenges on the half-way line.
But Trolls must have been pleased with the solid team performance as his side gave 100 per cent which was clearly borne out by the number of visiting players who needed treatment from their physio.
Certainly with our recent run of results there is no reason why Trolls should have taken to wearing a disguise. Surely his beard is not a fashion statement, maybe he is looking for another string to his bow by becoming Captain Black Arab if he ever gets the sack.
Rovers' official programme has been named Programme of the Year in its division for the sixth successive season. Judges said "the simple question is always is there a better issue than Rovers and the answer once again is no." A great tribute editor Keith Brookman.
* Gran must have been pregnant in October, 1961, when Rovers beat Leeds 4-0 at Eastville.
