Gloucestershire all-rounder David Brown has left the county by mutual consent with a year of his contract remaining.

Burnley-born Brown, pictured right, burst onto the scene when scoring a blistering 63 not out from just 26 balls in a winning cause in a C&G Trophy tie against Surrey in Bristol in 2006.

But a series of injuries, and loss of form, meant first-team opportunities were few and far between for the Lancastrian last season and his departure was expected once it became clear New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin would be returning in 2010.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: "David Brown as an all rounder at the club has had few opportunities this season and, looking forward, we both agreed that it would be in everyone's best interest if he moved on.

"We would all like to express our gratitude to David for his four seasons at the club and wish him every success."

Brown added: "I have really enjoyed my years at Gloucestershire and would like to thank the players and members for all their support over the whole period.

"I wish the club every success for the future. I plan to continue my career and look forward to playing against my former colleagues soon."

“Rumour has it that GCCC are to employ face fitting exercise specialists. What with remains to be seen, as the financial figures for the past year ending 30th September are expected to be rather or very grim.”

“Can someone enlighten me as to why when the club keep on about all the young talent is it all either being sacked or leaving.
After another season of winning nothing why are the older players not being sorted out, most have under achieved yet again.
Perhaps if Mr.Bracewell does not like you then there is no chance!!!!!!”
