For roughly one sixth the price of an M5 sports saloon, BMW will sell you a vehicle that will leave its legendary performance car floundering on the sprint from standstill to 60mph.

One that, as the M5 slams into its 155mph speed limiter, will soar on unrestricted to 170mph.

What does it cost? It costs a lot, there are no two ways about that.

At over £10,000 with no options installed, this is an expensive motorcycle but BMW will coolly inform customers that they're getting a vast amount of capability for the price. It's possible to add to that capability and that price too.

The options list harbours desirable extras like an ABS braking system to control the formidable 320mm front discs and 265mm rears, ESA Electronic Suspension Adjustment, tyre pressure sensors and heated grips.

How does it handle? The size of the K1300S will be daunting for some but the bike has been designed to maintain high levels of manoeuvrability and a nimble feel at high speeds.

Coupled with that, BMW's advanced Duolever suspension system works to isolate steering and braking forces for a smooth and responsive riding experience even at high speeds.

With its massive power to call upon, the K1300S can pass 60mph in just over 2.8s but its grand touring credentials are underlined by a 19-litre tank and real world economy in the region of 45mpg.

Verdict. The K1300S is a serious piece of equipment with devastating pace and the comfort levels to eat up long journeys. It isn't cheap but the more you think about what it can do, the more it looks like a bargain.
