The rich do not understand us
I WRITE in support of Judith Brown and Tony Probert on the subject of "Where are the rich pensioners?" (The Post December 21).
We are unfortunate in having a ruling class which has absolutely no idea how anyone below their level of wealth and power maintains a day to day living.
Whichever party they belong to, they are mostly smart, youngish, wealthy and well educated but regrettably they have no common sense whatsoever.
They insist on tinkering with things of which they have no understanding. For example NHS, public services, education, military, etc, other than that information supplied by the briefing papers from their civil servants many of whom at that level are from the same stable as the politicians.

Unfortunately this will never change until we insist that anyone wanting to be a Member of Parliament has served his or her time in a proper job for 10 years or more. They will then at least know some of the realities of the world.
Of course this will never happen as the whole system is too cosy. They will continue to screw up this country and screw up the lives of us plebs (I used the word advisedly) by doing things in which we really have no interest and which do not help the ordinary person at all.
Deputy prime-minister Nick Clegg (pictured) is the classic example, luckily at least he is a vote loser.
Oh and by the way, at 81, I paid my dues from 1948 until I retired. So Mr Clegg don't tell me to give up what I have earned by honest, hard graft.
