It was a real pleasure to be invited to open the Cadbury Heath Information Centre last week, which has just been launched at the Old Pavilion, where Banjo Island Community and Sports Association (BISCA) is based.

It marks such a turnaround for the building and local residents. Several years ago, the pavilion was a derelict building, earmarked for demolition. That was until members of the local community decided to step in and save it. Now, having been taken over by the association, it has been turned into a thriving beacon for the local community.

What is more, it has been the active engagement of young people that has helped make the pavilion and BICSA what they are. They are the ones who have helped renovate and paint it, restoring the building to its full use.

BICSA is a model of what can be done when the local community comes together to support one another, taking pride in what they have set up and achieved.

The information centre there, part of the Juice CIC community information centre project, is one more step along this road. It provides free advice and information to local residents on every kind of problem from health issues to applying to local schools – a one stop shop that people can drop into for help.

The centre is based at BICSA, Old Pavilion, Park Road, Cadbury Heath. I would encourage all local residents of Cadbury Heath to come along and see for themselves how this great facility can benefit them.

Chris Skidmore, Prospective Conservative MP, Kingswood.
