Yet more M5 traffic misery for Bristol drivers

Wednesday, September 02, 2009, 07:00

Road works caused long delays for commuters on the M5 this morning.

A contraflow system with a 50mph speed limit was set up while resurfacing and other major work continues between junction 18 and junction 19 at Portishead.

At one stage northbound traffic was queuing back as far as Weston-super-Mare.

Commuters routes into Bristol from Portishead and Clevedon were choked with delays of at least 30 minutes as drivers attempted to find alternative routes.

There was also queuing traffic on the A369 The Portbury Hundred to the B3124 Portbury Common because of road works.

Work began in August and is due to continue until the end of December.
