Patchway youth club teens repair minibus

Friday, October 30, 2009, 07:00

Five teenagers at Patchway Youth Club refurbished a minibus which is now being used by a community transport scheme.

The youngsters carried out the work after spending the past year on the Bristol-based Wheels Project.

Hayden Waldron, Tom Everard, Joe Desambrois, Daniel Head and Ryan Hooper also gained motor maintenance qualifications through the scheme, which runs practical programmes in vehicle road safety, repair and maintenance for disaffected and disadvantaged teenagers.

The minibus had been donated by Avon and Somerset Police and by the time it was handed over to Four Towns Community Transport chairwoman Shirley Holloway, who is also chairwoman of South Gloucestershire Council, it had been completely renovated.

It is now being used to carry passengers who are unable to use conventional public transport.

Money from the Big Stash fund paid for the youth club members to join the project.
