Bristol community group gets £20k for youngsters

A Bristol community group has been granted £20,000 to help young people get involved in activities in the area.

The Southern Brooks Community Partnership was given the cash by the Government's office for criminal justice reform.

The grant will be used to set up Dreamschemes, a project aimed at getting eight to 16 year-olds in Filton, Patchway and Bradley Stoke involved in the community.

The scheme aims to bridge the gap between the generations, reduce anti-social behaviour by providing young people with opportunities, and get youngsters to identify the projects they themselves want.

The partnership, which has been working with local communities for 21 years supporting families and working with children at risk of offending, hopes to have the project running by February.

Residents are invited to the annual general meeting, held on November 16, from 7pm to 9pm, at St Andrews Methodist Church Hall, in Elm Park, Filton.

Guests will see the launch of its new DVD, Making a Difference, and hear details about the Dreamschemes project.

There will also be a look back at the achievements of the last 12 months, and a discussion of plans for the year ahead.
