Why do parents get unfair treatment on buses?
I FELT I had to write about the Open On-line comments made by “Vixenmoo” following the Post article telling how a 23-year-old mum was left stranded with her five-week-old daughter after two First drivers refused to let her on because she had a buggy (“You can’t bring that pram on my bus,” November 3).
I was incensed. I wonder if the writer has children.
As a young mum of two, I have repeatedly been refused access to First buses, being told that there are two buggies already on the bus and one or more folded up in the hold at the front of the vehicle.
On repeated occasions, too, I have had to wait for not just one bus, but two or three, being told the same story from rather rude drivers.
Some have just driven past me without bothering to stop and give an explanation.
I wonder if “Vixenmoo” has ever had to stand in the cold with two over-zealous toddlers while trying to fold up a buggy, juggling the children and also keeping an eye on shopping bags.
Then there are also the selfish people, especially during rush hour times, who push past you as if you don’t exist just to make sure they get on the bus.
Believe me, if it wasn’t my only means of transport, I wouldn’t put myself or my children through this horrible, stressful process for anything.
C Beaven,
Knowle.
