Inspectors rated the school as outstanding in a number of categories, including its overall effectiveness, personal development and wellbeing, achievements and standards and the quality of provision and leadership and management.
Their report said that pupils were articulate, confident and proud of their school and that they evidently enjoyed learning because of their exceptional behaviour and levels of attendance.
The inspectors said the children felt safe and knew that there was always support on hand for any problems, adding: "There is always someone there reassuring them and encouraging them in a wonderfully positive way."
Lessons were described as "motivating and stimulating" which enabled all children to have a go, increasing their confidence and independence.
The report also praised the strong leadership of the school and said that the head teacher had been instrumental in the improvement of standards and overall provision.
The inspectors also said the governors were very effective and that all the teachers appeared passionate about teaching and developing the children.
The Westfield Drive school, which has 123 pupils, was also praised for its partnerships with the local community and the report said this could be extended to develop further the children's understanding of British multicultural issues.
West Leigh chairman of governors Deborah Baughan said: "The result is thoroughly deserved. The staff and children work incredibly hard and the governing body is delighted with this outstanding achievement."
Head teacher Mandy Martin said: "I am delighted that the school community has been recognised for its total commitment to the care and development of our children.
"I am so proud that the inspection team saw the school as it is on a daily basis and understood the dedication of each and every one of the team."
"The report demonstrates just a snapshot of what we do every day and highlights just some of the hard work of all the staff, parents, children and governors in providing a top class education for all of the children.
"The report shows that not only academically is West Leigh excellent, but also that the school is a lively, positive community and delivering well rounded and well prepared pupils for the next stage in their education.
"To be recognised as an outstanding school is wonderful, however, there is always room for improvement and we shall be continuing to ensure the best possible provision for our children."
