Join a revolution

I would like to use this blog to help kickstart a debate which has just been launched on a website called uk21.org.uk.

The website was set up to gather people's views on the best way to govern ourselves.

It starts from the premise that our current system of government is not suited to the 21st century and we ought to put our thinking caps on to come up with something better.

It's not talking about twiddling at the edges by devolving more power to the regions or changing the voting system by introducing proportional representation.

It's talking about a root and branch revolution.

We all want a government system which is good value for money.

It also needs to be accountable to the people it serves and balance the needs of society against those of the individual.

It should help to improve the quality of our lives and provide some kind of template for us to lead harmonious, healthy and prosperous lives.

These are all aims and ideals which most of us would agree with.

But how do we achieve them?
