New deputy head keen to make his mark at Bristol school

Peter Goodyer, boarding housemaster at St John's School, Leatherhead, has been appointed deputy head at Colston's School, Bristol.

He will take up his new post at the Stapleton school at the start of the academic year in September.

Peter, 36, was born in Johannesburg and lived in South Africa until 12 years ago.

One of his passions is animal conservation, and every year he returns to South Africa with parties of sixth-form pupils from St John's to work in game parks. He hopes to continue this work with Colston's pupils.

A keen mountain hiker, Peter has been to the peak of Kilimanjaro, the highest "walkable" mountain in the world. He is a keen all-round sportsman with rugby, cricket, swimming and cross country his favourites.

As a prop forward he has played rugby for Eastern Province Under-21s and Border Province B Squad.

"Playing rugby at this level in South Africa meant that you became aware of touring teams from Colston's School," he said. "They have earned a reputation down there of being very competitive."
