Zambezi show aid for Bristol's hospice
The first show of Zambezi Express opens today and all proceeds from the gala performance will benefit St Peter's Hospice.
It tells the story of a boy's pursuit of his footballing dream from the backstreets of a Zimbabwe township to triumph in South Africa and features energetic dancing, singing and acrobatics.
St Peter's Hospice provides care and support to people with terminal illnesses from its inpatient units and in the community as well as helping families after they have lost a loved one.
Zambezi Express, which is running until Sunday, October 18, is being backed by Tony Hopkins, who has previously brought big name shows to The Downs.
He said: "We always try to support local charities when our shows go on tour and whenever we come to Bristol we like to support St Peter's Hospice as it does amazing work helping local people with terminal illness and supporting their families."
John Flanagan, community fundraising manager for St Peter's Hospice, said: "Last year alone we provided specialised care free of charge to over 2,000 patients and bereavement and grief support to over 6,000 family members, including children.
"The cost of providing this unique and specialised service to the people of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire is £5.5 million per year so we are so grateful to the team involved with Zambezi Express for being such great supporters of St Peter's and hosting this gala evening on our behalf."
