Everything must go at Woolies – even the staff ironing board
The ironing board was on sale for £2 alongside fixtures and fittings, including shop chairs for £20, a fridge sold for £40 – even the store's safe was on sale on the last day on Tuesday
A sign outside the front of the doors read: "Store closing today at 5pm, all stock and fixtures must go. Discounts as high as 90 per cent."
Alongside DVDs, CDs and clothes, the shop's shelves, step ladders and even the staff lockers were being sold.
Yesterday also saw shops stores close in Clevedon and Shirehampton.
Over the weekend, branches in Broadmead, Weston-super-Mare, Kingswood and Yate all closed.
The closures have come after Deloitte, administrators for the stricken company, said all branches nationwide would close by January 5 after failing to find a buyer for the firm.
Among the huge sale signs and quickly-emptying shelves, shoppers hunted for bargains.
Children's clothes were being sold for £3 per five items, pic'n'mix sweets were going for 90p a pot, and CDs had 5p stickers on them.
Bottled water, usually costing about 50p or more, was knocked down to 9p.
Customers were bartering with staff to bring prices down even more.
Ken Ogborne, 56, from Hanham, had offered staff £5 for nine boxes of more than 100 crackerjack.co.uk/bristol/film" target=_blank>film posters, originally priced at £3.99 each.
He said: "It's unbelievable that I got all these for £5. The kids will be able to choose what they want, then I'll take the rest to a car boot sale. I came down this morning and bought some posters for 10p each, then came back this afternoon to get the rest.
"It's so sad that they are closing – I've been brought up with Woolworths around."
The Srivastava family from Fishponds had also been making the most of the sales.
Surikant Srivastava, 41, said: "We have bought pinboards, CDs and other bits and pieces, all for just under £5. It's all so cheap."
His wife Surabhi, 32, said: "I feel bad that the store is closing, I used to come here quite a lot, mainly for household stuff."
Filton, Hartcliffe, Bedminster and Clifton are due to close on Friday, January 2, and Nailsea is due to close on Monday, January 5, unless a last-minute buyer is found, leaving 27,000 workers facing redundancy.
