Firefighters were called out to a fire in a property in Robertson Drive, St Anne's, at 11.40am on Sunday.
The 50-year-old woman was at home with her dog and had to be rescued from the flat by firefighters.
Firefighters from Speedwell and Brislington used two breathing apparatus and one high pressure hose reel jet to fight the fire.
The fire started in the ground floor kitchen.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue said that although the fire did not cause much damage, the woman was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital by paramedics.
