Thief steals suitcase full of Ann Summers kit

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 16:58

A thief was in for a surprise when he checked his loot from a car he broke into in Clevedon – the case he stole from the boot is full of Ann Summers kit.

Sam Bowyer, aged 21, is a rep for the company and had returned home to Seymour Close on Saturday night after holding a party at a friend's house.

When she got back, she left the bright pink case full of her Ann Summers kit in the boot of her blue Nissan Micra, locked the car and then went to bed.

But in the morning, she discovered the front passenger window had been smashed and her case, containing lingerie and saucy fancy dress clothes, including a French maid outfit and battery-operated appliances, had been stolen.

The kit cost Sam £500 and she will have to replace the items before being able to continue organising parties.

Sam said: "I became an Ann Summers rep to earn a bit of extra money before Christmas and really enjoy doing the parties as they are great fun and a way to meet new people.

"My mum initially noticed that the windows of the car were wound down when she went off to work early on Sunday.

"But when I went out to have a look, I saw that the front window had been smashed in and that they had stolen my case from the boot.

"Whoever stole this will be in for a real surprise when they open the case to find all my kit.

"There was a lot of lingerie in there as well and some fancy dress items, including a French maid outfit.

"There were also some novelty chocolate items, but I expect the thief has eaten those by now."

The thief also stole Sam's diary, which had details of all her Ann Summers party bookings until the end of the year.

Sam said: "It is unfortunate they took my diary because it had my party details in it until the end of 2008.

"They also took some of the order forms, but I am going to make sure that the people who ordered goods as gifts do get them in time for Christmas."

Sam's car was one of 10 which were broken into over the weekend in the area.

Thieves broke into five cars overnight on Friday and a following five overnight on Saturday.

The thefts took place in the Copse Road, Griffin Road, Cherry Avenue and Sawyers Court.

The thieves either smashed front windows of the vehicles to gain entry or bent open the passenger or drivers' side doors.

Items including satellite navigation systems, CD players, speakers and a sports kit bag were stolen.

Police are warning people to be extra vigilant and remove all items from vehicles before locking them up for the night.

A Clevedon police spokesman said: "It is a possibility that a gang was operating in the area because of the number of thefts over the two nights.

"People should ensure they remove all items, including any evidence of having a satellite navigation system before they lock their cars up for the evening."

Anyone with information about the thefts should call Clevedon Police on 0845 456 7000 or alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
