Hundreds of people turned out to support Bristol's oldest city farm to try to prevent it from closing down.

Windmill Hill City Farm, in Bedminster, has launched a £50,000 appeal to keep it open as a popular community venue. The Big Fundraiser was held on Saturday and raised £5,000.

Management committee member Emma Page said: "A huge number of people came along – at least 1,000 and new people wanted to become members and were giving us their email details."

Opened by novelist Lesley Pearce, the event was supported by Bristol-based award-winning Aardman Animations, whose experts ran a modelling workshop featuring Shaun the Sheep and asked children to design a Rosie the Pig character based on one of the farm's residents.
