Stars try karaoke revolution

Sunday, November 09, 2008, 23:24

A string of celebrities packed a Bristol karaoke bar for its first birthday celebration last night.

David Mitchell, Justin Lee Collins, Patrick Baladi and Olivia Colman were just some of the stars who belted out their favourite tunes at Karaoke-Me! on St Stephen's Street.

Owners Mark Delaney, 42, and Ed Sinclair, 34, who trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, fuelled friends with champagne throughout the evening.

Peep Show star Mitchell told the Evening Post: "I think the whole private booth thing is a brilliant idea and turns what is a potentially humiliating experience into a really fun night."

His friend Olivia Colman – who is married to co-owner Ed Sinclair – said she would be singing anything by Cyndi Lauper or "anything with irony".

She added that the couple had got the idea after a trip to New York when they became hooked and hired a private booth for five hours between themselves.

The entrepreners aim to target those who are terrified of singing on stage and say their venue is the perfect night out for an intimate party.

Rooms in the venue are named after rock legends such as Morrissey and Jagger. They can hold five to 13 people who can choose from 5,000 songs.
