Oxford penalty denies Gloucester City win

Sunday, December 28, 2008, 23:13

An Oxford City penalty denied Gloucester City three points in their BGB League Premier Division clash.

The best chances of a quiet first half for the home side fell to Jamie Brooks both of which he fired wide.

Jack Pitcher came closest to breaking the deadlock for the visitors when he headed an Alex Sykes' free kick against the crossbar.

Early in the second half, Michael Lyon spurned a good chance to score as he shot wide.

However, it was the Tigers who opened the scoring when Lee Smith cut in from the right and drove the ball into the net on 63 minutes.

But their joy was shortlived when Oxford were awarded a penalty and Darren Pond converted to earn his side a point.
