New petrol station opens at Asda Bedminster
The first motorists to use the pumps on the forecourt were members of the South West branch of the Royal British Legion riders group, who filled up their motorcycles at the opening yesterday lunchtime (Fri).
The supermarket chain has had planning permission to build a petrol station at its shop off Coronation Road for several years and work had been due to start in building it in 2007.
But plans to start work were quickly halted because bosses feared shoppers could be hit by fuel tankers.
The supermarket chain said it would go back to the drawing board because it had safety concerns with the layout, as it involved bringing tankers through the customer car park
The company reapplied for planning permission in 2008 for four automated filling machines in the north end of the car park.
