Fun for Bristol kids in summer holidays
Avon and Somerset's Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been working hard with Safer Bristol and other organisations to give children things to do during the holidays.
In Hartcliffe, beat manager PC Matt McQuaid has set up a football team for 16 to 18-year-olds and they have designed the kit themselves.
PC McQuaid said: "It became apparent that many of the kids were unable to join local football teams due to a lack of transport and money. So, I decided to provide another option.
"We are always looking for fixtures, so if anyone has a youth team (16 to 18 years old) or adult team and want to play us, they can contact me on 0845 456 7000."
There are sports, games, arts and drama every Wednesday, noon to 5pm, at Hareclive Primary School and Wilmott Park in Hartcliffe. In Henbury, the annual Fun Day is taking place on August 22.
Cheryl Coles, community safety officer at Safer Bristol, said: "It's all about promoting Henbury and Brentry in a positive light and getting local residents together to have some fun and enjoy themselves."
PC Alex Owen, from Redland, is running a club at Fairfield School every Friday called South West Submission Wrestling, which was the idea of the school beat manager Lloyd Nethercott.
PC Owen said: "It's a good way of teaching youngsters self control, co-ordination and perceptual awareness."
The St Paul's youth and family project Full Circle is running a football tournament at the City Academy in St George on August 21. There is also a basketball tournament at St Paul's Sports Centre on August 25.
