European elections: The parties

British National Party: Believes in a policy of "voluntary resettlement whereby those immigrants who are legally here will be afforded the opportunity to return to their lands of ethnic origin assisted by a generous financial incentive."

Christian Party "Proclaiming Christ's Lordship": Led by the Rev George Hargreaves, a former songwriter who briefly joined the Lib Dems before joining the Christian People's Alliance.

Conservative Party: Against Britain joining the Euro currency and wants social and employment legislation returned to British control. It defends the Single Market in Europe.

English Democrats Party: Wants an English Government like Scotland. Wants Britain to withdraw from the EU and rejoin the European Free Trade Association.They say it will save Britain £63 billion a year.

Fair Pay Fair Trade Party: Organised social movement to help primary producers in developing countries by only importing fair trade products.

Jury Team: Wants to make politics more accessible and politicians more accountable. It wants to support a network of independent MPs and MEPs.

Liberal Democrats: Pro-EU but wants more accountability on MEPs' pay and expenses. Wants the EU's total annual budget not to exceed one per cent of the GDP of all member states.

Mebyon Kernow – The Party for Cornwall: Wants self-government for Cornwall in the same way as Scotland and Wales.

No2EU: Yes to Democracy: Left-wing campaign under the auspices of the Socialist Party which stands for workers' rights and public services and is "firmly opposed" to the BNP.

Pensioners' Party: Lists 23 aims to improve rights for pensioners, such as improving state pension in line with Europe; free health, residential and nursing care for pensioners; free travel and subsidised utility bills.

Pro Democracy: Libertas.eu: Dedicated to EU reform by return of "vital" control to member states; scrapping secret meetings and introducing "proper auditing of EU expenses".

Socialist Labour Party: Left-wing party which wants withdrawal from the EU.

The Green Party: Believes in internationalism but also that some decisions are best taken at regional or local level; wants a zero or low carbon economy.

The Labour Party: Promotes economic reform to make Europe more competitive; wants to work with EU partners to tackle climate change; wants further reform of Common Agricultural Policy; wants to liberalise world trade.

United Kingdom Independence Party: Believes Britain should withdraw from the EU and use the free trade agreements used by non-EU nations.

Wai D: The candidates, if elected as MEPs, would pay to set up an internet site where people would put forward their views and elected members would be mandated to pursue their causes.

Katie Olivia Hopkins, independent: Former finalist in The Apprentice. She says: "Party politics no longer stands for anything. They all look the same, sound the same, and share the same murky middle ground."
