Comment: 260 million reasons to say yes to Bristol City's new stadium

Bristol City's new stadium could bring £260 million to the city's economy.

This astonishing figure comes in a report from accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers.

And that is a conservative estimate.

The stadium would create many other possibilities, including an arena for Bristol – something we desperately need.

It would help bring our city properly into the 21st century.

We are the capital of the West and we need to behave like it.

We need to be bold, we need to be positive, we need to be confident and we need to seize this opportunity. However there is a risk that Bristol City's application to build two groups of houses on land near to the new stadium will lead to the whole scheme being put in jeopardy.

That must not happen. The scheme needs to be approved in its entirety.

If not, we will regret it for generations to come.
