Bristol is in the pink as artist discovers colour most associated with city

A Bristol artist has discovered "the shade of Bristol" by asking locals what colour they associate with the city.

Clare Thornton has created a unique colour swatch book entitled DIY Shades of Bristol, incorporating 60 shades created by the local residents she interviewed.

The winning shade was a vibrant pink, entitled Friendly Chaos Pink, created by St Werburgh's resident Kate Monger.

Throughout an exhibition at Arnolfini, the artist invited gallery visitors to vote for the colour they liked best.

Thornton said: "Collecting personal colour associations to create a unique swatch book for Bristol has taken me on a fascinating journey through the city. The stories people shared with me about their particular shade of Bristol and the care folk have taken in mixing the colour has been a rich process."
