Bristol club pays tribute with wacky charity workout

Thursday, January 01, 2009, 13:23

Weird and wacky costumes were out in force for the first Robbie Stuart fancy dress workout in aid of charity.

Organised by Ben Morris from Old Bristolians Rugby Club, the gruelling challenge was designed to pay tribute to the club's former second team captain Stuart – pictured right – who lost his battle with leukaemia in November, while helping CLIC Sargent, a charity close to his heart.

As a player the 28-year-old showed bags of hard work and dedication, and off the pitch he had a love for fancy dress, so the two were combined at Redwood Lodge in Failand, Bristol.

In total, 23 people took part in the challenge which included a 1,000m row, shoulder press exercises, burpees, press ups and sit ups.

The title was won by James Trezona in eight minutes, 32 seconds, dressed as a nurse.

Best costume went to Rupert Hyde for his Borat 'mankini' outfit.

The best effort was made by Emily Tuck, who, despite being ill, managed to finish in nine minutes, 39 seconds.

Around £300 was raise for CLIC Sargent, which supports families with children and young people affected by cancer.

Mr Morris said: "It was an entertaining evening and inspiring to see everybody pushing themselves for pride and for charity. It's only the beginning of our fundraising but it's a great start and for me, commemorated a good man in the right way."
