Bristol city planners win top civil service award

Friday, November 28, 2008, 21:40

The Bristol-based online service for planning applications has won a top civil service award for the public service it provides.

The Public Value Award was awarded as part of Whitehall and Westminster's Civil Service Awards 2008 and recognises public services which offer value for money and make an outstanding contribution to the public.

The Planning Portal was created to make the planning application process easier and less time-consuming. Applications can be submitted online to any local authority in England and Wales and the site provides guidance on all aspects of planning, including help with compiling an application and information on town planning.

Chris Kendall, Director of the Planning Portal, said: "I am delighted to have collected this award on behalf of the Planning Portal team. I believe our team represents exactly the characteristics the Head of the Home Civil Service, Sir Gus O Donnell, has called for: "Pace, Pride, Passion and Professionalism", and I would add a fifth P: "Partnership".

"Working with Local Planning Authorities, policy colleagues, industry and stakeholders right across the planning spectrum gives us a unique insight into the workings of the planning system and enables us to deliver solutions that are needed and appreciated by all our partners."
