Bristol Korfball Club attracts new members

Friday, September 18, 2009, 07:00

MORE than 50 people have been having a go at one of the world's more unusual sports in Bristol.

The city's Korfball Club held the sessions as it is looking for more members to learn the game and strengthen their squad.

Korfball was invented in 1901 by a Dutch teacher and is played by teams of eight players –four men and four women. The fast-paced ball sport is commonly compared to netball and basketball with the difference being that it is one of the world's only truly mixed team sports.

The club's Sophie Laurenson said: "There were about 25 people at each session and they were very successful – everyone got to play a game with the more experienced players and we already have some newcomers keen to come to our next tournament in Abingdon."
