Avon teams have great fun with double triumph

Avon's Primary Sportshall Athletics Squad dominated the South West (North) 'Fun in Athletics' Championships at UWE last Sunday, with both the boys and girls teams running away as champions.

The girls team, competing under the name of Avon Crusaders, retained the title they won 12 months ago in convincing style with victories in 13 of the 16 events.

Top performances on the day came from Georgia Taylor (Yate) & Abigial Roach (North Somerset), who where joint-first in the hi-stepper.

Sofie Andersen (North Somerset) also impressed scoring 54 and winning the speed bounce, while Samantha Barrett (Filton Academy) won the balance test and standing triple jump.

Additionally, Fenella Ford (Yate) scored 42 in the vertical jump and Adaora Chigbo (North Somerset) jumped an impressive 2.02m in the standing long jump.

In the boys event, it was a lot closer, with only five points separating Avon from their closest rivals, the Somerset Spartans, who beat them last year.

On the track, the outstanding performances came from Harry Cook (South Glos Dev Squad) and Liam Watson (North Somerset), who led the six-lap parlauf relay from the start – an event where the two runners share the six laps between them.

Top performances in the field, came from Thomas Melling (South Glos Development Squad), who won the balance test, and Henry Hoult (North Somerset), who won the vertical jump.

Avon's second teams, the Stormers finished fourth in the boys event and third in the girls.
