May builds lead, even after a fall
He was edged into second place in the first race by Calne Honda star Jamie Skuse, but May turned the tables on the 20-year-old agricultural engineer in the second race.
In the third and final race, May went down on the third turn shortly after the start – and he was last at that point. However, there was no throwing in the towel and May picked up places on every lap to settle for fifth in the closing stages.
Local star George Davis rode consistently to maintain second place in the main championship.
Keith Parnell, from Newquay, has been competing in the National Sprint Association's quarter-mile meetings for 50 years.
In Sunday's meeting at Westonzoyland, near Bridgwater, he marked the occasion by setting the fastest time in the Unlimited racing class event, in which he reached a terminal speed of 160mph, in spite of having to cope with a head wind.
Ten other class winners reached speeds in excess of 100mph.
Minehead scaffolder Nick Baker was an easy winner of the Exmoor club trial at Simonsbath, West Somerset.
He lost just three marks in three laps of a dozen sections at Horsen Farm.
