Pair claim honours at trials event

Peter King and Shane Lovatt were winners of two timed and observation trials staged by the North Somerset club in Scarrs Wood, near Lulsgate, over the weekend.

King won Saturday evening's six-lap event without dropping a mark.

Jason Hamblin, Justin Adams and Kerry Lawford also completed the hour-long event without incurring penalty in the half-dozen observed sections.

Gary Newman out-pointed his rivals in the Enduro class in the event.

Lovatt was first to complete Sunday's seven lap contest at the same venue and his only loss on observation was a three-mark debit in the second section.

Runner-up Jason Hamblin retained a clean sheet, but he lost seven marks on time, and Paul Manning was an eight-mark winner of the Enduro class.

Wilts Border club-man Craig Talbot and his father Mark were winners of the Experts and Clubman classes in the Kingswood Club's trial at Beaconsfield Farm, West Harptree, on Sunday.

Craig's lap scores were one, two and six, which included a stop in the seventh section, while Mark incurred losses of six, five and seven.

The Over-50 class winner was Don Radford, a sprightly 73-year-old from Bournemouth, who lost just one mark within sight of the finish in the 14th section on his final lap.

British Sidecar Motocross champions Stuart Brown and Luke Peters won the first two sixth-round races at Wrangway Cross, near Wellington in Somerset on Sunday, but they suffered their first defeat of the series in the final races after experiencing clutch problems at the start.
