Lovatt on form with Wookey Hole win

Wessex Centre Timed and Observation Trial champion Shane Lovatt was in good form in the Wells Club's hour-long event at Milton Lane, Wookey Hole, Somerset, scoring an eight- mark win over Peter King in a 14-lap event that attracted 27 starters.

Lovatt was first to complete the event and he lost only six marks on observation – three in the third and three more in the fourth. King was a trifle slower and dropped eight marks in the same sections.

Reigning Classic Bike Motocross champion Andy Roberton took the lead in the current series after winning both second-round races in the Western Classic Club's British Bike Bonanza weekend at Horsley, near Nailsworth in Gloucestershire.

First-round winner Adrian Cox was absent because he was competing in a European championship event, but Scott Hayworth and Clutton's David Bell gave Roberton a hard time in the first 10-lap race after Carl Pope fell on the second lap and came home in eighth place.

Pope was all over Roberton in the second race, but his hopes of a win were dashed by a number of slower riders who were about to be lapped in the latter stages of the race.

Bristol's Richard Toghill picked up a win and a second place in the 500cc Rickman Championship races.

Bell won all three races in the Pre Unit Class and two more in the Pre 1960 Class, while Chippenham's Derek Daniels showed his rivals a clean pair of heels in the Clubman Class races at the sun-drenched Sallywood Farm venue.
