Yate man bailed after harassing ex-girlfriend

Saturday, October 31, 2009, 07:00

A 25-year-old Yate man has been bailed to await sentence after he admitted putting his former girlfriend in fear of violence.

At Gloucester Crown Court Christopher New, of Celestine Road, Yate, pleaded guilty to putting Carmen Allen in fear by harassment on May 9 this year, but denied assaulting her, causing actual bodily harm and two charges of common assault on her.

His pleas were accepted by Lisa Hennessy, prosecuting, who said the case had been carefully considered before the decision was taken not to proceed with the assault allegations.

In any case, she said, one of the common assaults was effectively part of the offence New has admitted.

Chris Coleman, defending, said New's relationship with Ms Allen "has now come to a conclusion".

Mr Coleman asked the court to adjourn for a pre-sentence report. Recorder Geoffrey Mercer QC will sentence New on November 27.
