Clevedon primary school want safer journey
St Nicolas Chantry School has received high-visibility jackets from Avon and Somerset Police Community Trust.
As part of an ongoing road safety awareness campaign, the trust is supplying schools across North Somerset with reflective jackets and education on road safety.
PCSO Elle French and PC Nicolas Butler of Clevedon Police Station presented the jackets to the children in the school's morning assembly.
PCSO French said: "The jackets are fantastic and the children are so much more visible on pavements and crossing the road; the children seem to like them too."
Head teacher Peter Treasure-Smith said: "We encourage the parents and children to walk to school and be as active as possible so I'm really pleased that they will help give the children that extra visibility."
This year, the police have given more than 1,600 high-visibility jackets to 37 schools in its area.
Trust chairman Dr Moira Hamlin said: "As we approach the darker evenings, it is increasingly important that children are made more visible."
The trust was formed in 1999 to help communities in the region become safer and better places to live.
It supports projects and schemes that work towards reducing crime and the fear of crime.
