VILLAGERS in Wickwar alerted police to men going door-to-door calling on vulnerable elderly people.

In November and December officers asked residents to be on the alert after reports of doorstep salesmen calling in areas where there had been burglaries.

Officers advised householders to ask to see a pedlar's licence if anyone cold-called to sell goods and to call police if suspicious.

Last Friday officers responded to a call and arrested two men in Wickwar High Street.
