memories of Bristol Rovers' legendary player Alfie Biggs.
IT was with deep sadness and flashes of wonderful memories when I read of the passing of dear old Alfie Biggs (Post, April 23).
I knew Alfie very well when I was a young teenager playing in the same team for Eagle House Youth Club. Alfie was a great player and was respected very much by every member of the team.
I remember one particular time when Alfie and I were in the same Possibles team against the Probables team in a Bristol Boys trial.
We were losing 1-0 at half time and a message was passed to our coach to switch Alfie from winger to centre forward in the second half.

What a transformation to the game that made, it seemed as though every time Alfie shot at goal it went straight into the back of the net and us Possibles ended up winning comfortably.
Only a few months ago I was given a photograph of an old Bristol Boys team to pass on to another well known Knowle West footballer named Len Tovey. Both Len and Alfie were in the photograph.
I am sure that Len would be happy if I added his name to mine when offering our sincere condolences to all the members of Alfie's family.
