New Yeovil Town boss Terry Skiverton insists he will be his own man when he makes his managerial debut as Oldham Athletic visit Huish Park today.

The 33-year-old has worked under more than ten managers in his playing career – including Martin O'Neill, Gary Johnson and predecessor Russell Slade.

Skiverton said: "I am sure if I try to act like other people I might not be myself and you can appear fake in front of the players.

"I think I will take ideas from the managers I have worked with but I will be my own man."

Skiverton's first words to the players on Thursday were to lay down a code of conduct and 'wipe the slate clean'.

There will be no more mickey-taking or referring to the centre half as 'Skivo', only 'gaffer'.

"We have had a few shouting Skaffer already," smiled the new manager.

"I have had seven or eight texts off the boys from the Under-15 side I coached saying 'Good luck, gaffer', so they have got it right."

Skiverton has similar legendary status in Yeovil to that which Brian Tinnion enjoyed at Bristol City.

The Geordie's Ashton Gate reign was premature, brief and unfulfilled. Skiverton is hoping his own tenure will prove much more successful.

He admits the job has come to him earlier than he expected and he felt a chill down his spine when he was offered the position.

"I am going to make mistakes but all the top managers do," he said. "It will be a case of knuckling down, putting in the work on the training ground and hopefully it will be a case of the harder you work the luckier you get.

"Even Darren Way is going to be watching games for me. He will be doing his rehab and helping me and Nathan (Jones) out as well."
