I'm sorry, green lobby - expanding Bristol International is great for this city
Despite the arguments against it, I'm totally in favour of the expansion of Bristol International Airport.
Let's be frank - it's going to be great news for Bristol.
It's going to bring more business, wealth and tourism to the city, while making overseas travel much more convenient for everyone who lives here.
I mean, who would have thought a few years ago that you would be able to fly from Bristol to Hong Kong, or Cape Town, by the middle of next decade?
Yes, there will be a slight carbon emissions growth but there are much more harmful things for the environment than aviation.
And we can't sacrifice the growth of Bristol - the city is on the up, it's coming into its own and having a better airport is only going to help.
In any case, there are plenty of other ways of cutting down on our carbon emissions and Bristol does more than its fair share on the environmental front.
The crucial thing for the success of the airport is to get better transport links.
There's no point in attracting millions more people every year if there's no way for them to get around.
Fortunately, it appears there is plenty of improvement in the pipeline - we just have to hope that the transport authorities crack on with it.
Bristol's becoming a truly wonderful city to live in - you can see its future being pieced together all around us and it's great to be part of it.

“Airport expansion great for Bristol? Better for people to spend their money supporting their own economy than taking it abroad to spend in my view. Much more money is spent abroad than is spent by vissitirs coming here.
Your comments on 'slight carbon emissions growth' are seriously misguided. You may not have noticed but best science is telling us to cut emissions not increase them. Climate impacts from flying are from high level cloud creation and nitrogen oxides emitted in addition to its carbon emissions. How are we supposed to meet targets for cuts if we permit airport expansion??
We are sacrificing the growth of Bristol if we misdirect our economic efforts. Large numbers of economists regard going green as the best way to create jobs eg by investing in efficiency, renewability and local communities.
You feel that Bristol is doing more than its fair share on the environmental front. Bristol's green credentials are an illusion, based on hype and marketing. City carbon emissions for instance are six times the sustainable level. Have you seen Bristol's traffic levels! Sound and look green to you??
We could all be much more positive about Bristol's future if we had proper investment in its local communities. Greater health, wellbeing and quality of life is not going to come from our society spending its efforts on expanding air travel.”
