I would love to be down in France with the boys this weekend, although if I am honest, it is a long old journey down there!

Instead I will be at home doing what non-sports people do at the weekend – well, that and trying to get myself fit for the Montpellier game.

I am desperate to get back fit for two reasons. One, I simply want to play and do my best to help the team; two, Scott Linklater's injury has left us thin at hooker.

It is a bit freakish that a week after I tore my left calf sprinting into a line-out after throwing in, Scott went and strained his left calf doing the very same thing.

When I did it, it felt like someone had thrown a cricket ball at the back of my leg – and Scott had the same feeling.

It is the twelfth day since my injury and things aren't going too badly. I am hoping to do some jogging today and to be back in full training by the end of next week so I can play some part against Montpellier.

David Blaney is the last man standing – and there is a good opportunity for him in Toulon this evening.

Hopefully he will go out and take that chance.

I was a bit disappointed by the England and Saxons squads which were announced this week.

First, I was disappointed that we were the only Guinness Premiership club not to have a single player among the 64 named.

All right, we are bottom of the table – but I think Shaun Perry and Dan Ward-Smith should definitely be in one of those squads.

It is disappointing for them, but at the same time it means we will have them available for those crucial games in February and March.

Another thing that has disappointed me about the main squad is that they have picked injured players. What is that about?

Tom Palmer and Tom Rees are both injured, yet they have remained in the squad. Surely they should bring someone else in for those two?
